NEW YORK (Reuters) - Kansas City Royals catcher Miguel Olivo has been suspended for one game for arguing a checked swing and making contact with the umpire, Major League Baseball said Wednesday.
Olivo disputed the call by umpire Phil Cuzzi during the top of the ninth inning of the of the Royals' 6-2 loss to the host Pittsburgh Pirates last Saturday.
The eight-year big-league veteran was also fined an undisclosed amount, said Bob Watson, baseball's vice president of on-field operations.
Olivo served the suspension Wednesday when the Royals hosted the Minnesota Twins.
