Officials: Haystack fire was arson

July 2, 2009 - 10:42 a.m. EST

RIVERTON, Wyo. - Officials say arson was the cause of last week’s fire that destroyed 70 tons of hay on Hutchison Road, about five miles north of Riverton, and are asking for help from the community. Three boys were seen leaving the area just before the fire which happened a week ago, Thursday, June 25, and a bicycle was found at the scene.

Sgt. Jerry Evagelatos released the information. He said two witnesses saw the boys, and believe them to be between the ages of 12- to 16-years-old. Damages have been estimated from $7,000 to $10,000, which makes the crime a felony. Evegalatos said the boys could face jail time or a fine or both.

Evagelatos said any information relating to the incident would be helpful. The number to call is 856-7200. No one was injured in the blaze.
