Football Reclass Passes

The WHSAA Board of Directors met in Casper. On the agenda were two reclass proposals.

The first was a football only plan. It passed on second reading and will go into effect in the 2009 season.

The proposal sees the top ten teams by enrollment in 4A. Those ten would play a nine game season against each other. That moves Riverton into the 3A ranks with breaks down the line after that. 3A would then have 12 teams and then 16 in 2A.

That would put a great amount of teams in 1A. Ten of those in that division will be playing Six Man football, however. That also would also bring Meeteetse and Ten Sleep back into Wyoming conferences instead of Montana where they now play.

Athletic Directors will now work on conference alignments for the 2009-2010 football season.

The second proposal was one that re-aligned every other sport in the state besides football. That was not well received by the districts and was defeated by the board.

That means all sports besides football will remain in the classes in which they are this year. There may be some movement as far as conferences are set up.

Other votes were made and more news on the meeting will come shortly.
