Just days after being hired, the press secratary to Republican U.S. House candidate Cynthia Lummis has departed the campaign after calling into an opponent's news conference under a fake name.

The campaign says Rachael Seidenschnur resigned her post after phoning a news conference held by Democrat opponent Gary Trauner and asking a question about Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Seidenschnur, 24, had denied using a fake name, but a recording of the exchange obtained by the Associated Press reveals the only question concerning Pelosi that was asked came from a caller identifying herself as "Sierra."

Phone records obtained by the AP also revealed that one of the eight telephone numbers called into the news conference was Seidenschnur cell phone.

It was only six days ago the campaign announced it had brought on Seidenschnur, along with new campaign manager Tucker Fagan.

Trauner was quick to respond to the revelation, saying the flop is an insight into what kind of congresswoman Lummis would be.

"I think deceit and deception are not Wyoming values," Trauner told the AP Wednesday. "With our economy melting down the way it is and all the other issues we have, that type of gotcha politics is not what the people of Wyoming want."

Lummis told reporters earlier today that she had not asked Seidenschnur to call into the news conference. Lummis stressed that Seidenschnur has resigned, and that she had not fired the aide.

Seidenschnur was previously the spokeswoman for outgoing Rep. Barbara Cubin.

Seidenschnur has twice worked as a Scheduler/Office Manager for Rep. F James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-WI). In 2002 she interned for Sen. Tim Hutchinson (R-AR).
