Cheyenne city attorney resigns in council dispute

October 8, 2008 - 11:08 a.m. EST

CHEYENNE, WYOMING - The Cheyenne city attorney has resigned, claiming that she's no longer willing to put up with what she claims has been abuse from a city councilor.

Claudia Angelos resigned Tuesday after a testy exchange with Councilor Pete Laybourn. Angelos says she has put up with abuse from Laybourn for two years. Laybourn had asked Angelos whether a proposed change that would make it harder to take items off the city council's consent agenda would violate provisions of the U.S. Constitution. The council votes on items on the consent agenda without discussing them.

Laybourn denies that he has ever been abusive to Angelos. He says that Angelos told him to hire his own lawyer for legal advice and says that amounted to a refusal to do her job.
