CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid says the full Senate will consider a bill to protect the Wyoming Range from new energy development next month.
Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, says the Senate will take up the legislation about Nov. 17 during a post-election session referred to as a "lame-duck session."
Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming introduced the Wyoming Range Legacy Act of 2007 one year ago. It would restrict additional oil and gas leasing, mining patents and geothermal leasing in a section of the Bridger-Teton National Forest in western Wyoming.
The Senate has bundled the bill with a package of more than 150 public land and water resources bills.
Some in the Senate have argued against the bill because they don't want to limit exploration and development on public lands.
