Game of the Week!

Week 4's Big Game pits a couple of unbeatens against each other in Conference play.

Of the State's seven unbeaten teams, four of them are in 2A. #1 ranked Big Horn travels to #4 Wind River as the 4-0 teams battle for 2A West's driver's seat. The two have no common opponents with three weeks left after this one.

As one might imaging looking at the geographics of this match up, they haven't played a whole lot of times. This will be their fifth meeting with the Rams winning the previous four. All games have been close, though. The past three years the Rams have won by no more than two scores each time. Big Horn won in 2002 in the State 2A semi finals 19 to 14.

The top ranked Rams have allowed 12 points in four games total while racking up an average of 37 points a game. That was helped by a 61 to 0 win over Sundance last week

Wind River has allowed just 21 points in four games. They've allowed just one score in their last three games with two shutouts. Offensively they have scored 34 points per game on average.

The Rams sport 2A's third ranked offense with Wind River right behind in fourth. Unbeatens Lusk and Burns rank #1-#2. BH running back Matt Metzger is 7th in the state with WR's Michael Runner 8th. Metzer accounts for 142 all purpose yards. Passing has Colby Wallerman of BH third, just ahead of Cougar QB Trent Jordan.

The defensive side of the football may be where things turn. Big Horn is far and away the state's best defense, regardless of class, allowing just 36.5 yards per game. The Cougar D ranks fourth in 2A with 135 yards allowed per game. Three Cougars rank in the top four individually on defense lead by Senior Pete Babione at 28 points a game. Cougar Junior safety Trent Jordan has 5 interceptions in four games.

Game time is set for 3pm from Leroy Sinner Field in Pavillion.

Big Game Runner Ups

5A

Natrona at Gillette.....think of this, the loser will be 0-2 in the North 5A and most likely will look at a road game to begin the playoffs.

East at Central.....nothing beats a rivalry....teams go to Riske Field at Central for this one. Central has won three of the last four in the series.

4A

#5 Lander at #4 Douglas..... Tigers continue their tour of ranked teams and sport a ranking for the first time in years.

#2 Cody at Worland..... Big game as far as the West conference is concerned.

3A

#1 Kemmerer at Big Piney....this one doesn't quite have the punch the past years have had.

#2 Glenrock hosts Thermopolis....Herders look to stay unbeaten

1A

Burlington vs. Riverside.....Rebels are ranked in 2A, Huskies are ranked in 1A, bragging rights at stake in this rivalry.

Guernsey vs. Lingle.....as stated before, nothing beats a rivalry and this SEWAC game is no exception.
