Riverton took on the Billings Lobos in the first game of the Cody Memorial Wood Bat baseball tourament Friday. The Lobos shut out the Raiders 8-0 in a game shortened to five innings via a tournament mercy rule.
Isaac Herrman went the distance on the mound for Riverton allowing just 7 hits.
Raider Manager Chris Jones said his team, "lost the free base battle."
Too many walks allowed too many baserunners for the Lobos who timed their hits around having people in scoring position. The wood bats deaden the ball and there aren't many extra base hits.
Riverton only instance where they had back to back hits. That came when Trevor Wilson and Doss Winter hit back to back singles, but, did so with two outs and were left stranded a batter later. Billings walked only one Raider.
Clark Mendes had two of the five hits for Riverton.
Riverton isn't home again until July 7th when they host Powell in a double header at Roy Peck Field.
